What is an apostille?

An apostille authenticates a document for use in the countries that belong to the Hague Convention. In India it is a sticker placed on the document by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

What is the difference between apostille and attestation?

Countries that are members of the Hague Convention accept an apostille. For a country that is not a member, the document is attested by the MEA and then legalized by that country’s embassy or consulate in India.

Which documents can be apostilled or attested?

Educational documents such as degrees, diplomas and marksheets; personal documents such as birth and marriage certificates, PCC and affidavits; and commercial documents such as invoices, certificates of origin and powers of attorney.

How long does the process take?

An apostille takes 3 to 5 working days, depending on the document type and where it was issued. Attestation that includes the MEA and an embassy such as the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain or Saudi Arabia normally takes 7 to 12 days.

What documents do I need to send?

For an educational document: the original degree, a copy of your passport, the final-year marksheet and one passport-size photograph. For a marriage certificate, birth certificate or affidavit: the original and a copy of your passport. For commercial documents: a covering letter addressed to the embassy or consulate and the Chamber of Commerce attested document.

Can you arrange pickup and delivery?

Yes. Pickup is free from major cities across India, normally within one to three working days of receiving your address, and the completed documents are couriered back to you. Pickup is not available from village areas.

Do I need to visit your office?

No. You are welcome at any of our offices, but the whole process can be handled by email, phone and courier.

How can I check the status of my document?

We email you a login ID and password. Sign in on the process status page to see the current stage. Once the document is dispatched, the courier can be tracked with its tracking number.

Is attestation done on originals or on photocopies?

Educational and personal documents are attested on the reverse of the original. Only commercial documents can be attested on photocopies. If an original is laminated, the lamination is removed first.

What is required for UAE document attestation?

The UAE is not a member of the Hague Convention, so an apostille is not valid there. The document is attested at state level and by the MEA, then by the UAE Embassy in India. MoFA attestation is completed in the UAE.

Can you handle commercial documents?

Yes. Commercial documents are attested by the Chamber of Commerce and then by the MEA, with embassy legalization where the destination country requires it.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer, online payment, demand draft or at-par cheque. Attested documents are dispatched once the payment is confirmed.
